Here's a tip: when you pay a 100 bucks for 20 effects, you have a crappy sound overall.
Some people pay a 1000 bucks for only one effect (reverb...)

So think about what you want: lots of effects to try them all and then decide what to really buy, or really invest in something you'll keep (a wah wah, a tubescreamer, a whammy pedal etc...)
I've heard that Zooms multieffects are pretty decent for the price.

I had a bunch of rack units unti I bought a Johnson J-Station. Now the others are gathering dust. What I liked was the ability to get combininations of different amps and effects. I've seen those for about 250.00. They track really well too. Hope this helps

What about the Digitech RP 2000. I heard that it is pretty good multi effect processor

I've got a zoom gfx 707, it shud b in your price range. It's got 32 preset effects, n you can customise any of them. The sounds pretty good, don't know if I'd use it to gig though, it's only got two pedals so to get to another sounds you have to tap through them all. But for pissin about its great. It can make your guit sound like an aeroplane, which is more of a novelty thing. And it has a Van Halen settin which is ****in heavy, you can hold a note for about 40 seconds just holdin it. It's really good for that two hand tappin. It's got all the other additions too, 6 sec recorder, built in drum machine, n a tuner( pretty standard for multi effects)
