Can anyone recommend a good, affordable amp?

I'm looking for a new Amplifier, because I've found out my current one isn't sufficient. Sure, it can play loud, but it only has 3 settings I can adjust (Gain, Volume and Tone), and its sound isn't that clear. So I want to buy a new Amp, preferably one with a few more settings, yet I'd still like to keep it affordable.

If someone knows a good amp that costs about 150£ at most, I'd really appreciate it.

Vox Valvetronix VT20 should fit your price range..
It is a modeling amp with tons of setting.. It takes a lot to learn it (for me) but you'll never be bored ..
there are lots of good amps out there.. Hopefully other will chime in with their suggestion..
150 british pounds equals about 240 us dollars...

I've taken a look at the amps on the websites you linked, and quite frankly, there are so many I don't know which ones are best compared to the price.

I could see that the Vox Valvetronix VT20 says something about a Footswitch. Is it necessary to have a that, or is that just to unlock the full potential of the Amp?

It is not a nessesity..
It is to change on the fly.. to cut on or off reverb and tremolo.
I don't have the foot switch..

I've heard good remarks about Roland Cube..
I can relate to Roland Amps.. I've had a Roland dac 15 for 27 years and still going strong.. input jack was only repair done on it..

Sadly, the Vox Valvetronix VT20 isn't sold to my country by any of the websites you linked to, but I've looked around for other amps in my price-range, and have found one that seems pretty good compared to the price. It's the Peavey Vypyr 15W (roughly 90£/150$ and no shipping tax, since I can buy it at that price in a store in a neighboring town). Do you know if it's worth the money or if I should look around for something better?

Thanks for your help, man. It's been really helpful, to be honest.

It sounds like you want to buy a amp you have never heard. That is like buying a house you have never looked in. The sound of the guitar is a driving force and part of that force is the amp. You will get to a point that as you play you will feel a force move through you, moving into your guitar then to the amp. You need a amp you love the sound of. Everything can’t fall into place if you do not like the tone you are hearing to go with the feel moving through you.

Well, I was planning on bringing my guitar into the store and ask if I could try the amp before deciding whether or not to actually buy it. Most music-stores near where I live tend to let people try the equipment before buying, because they know how valuable satisfied customers can be.

Cool, play through anything they will let you. You may want to stop by another store and try there stuff also. Any store only carries so many brands.

Happy hunting.

Thanks. Hopefully, I'll manage to find something I like that doesn't cost more than I can afford.
