Hiya,

I just got an elec guitar & its great playing it. I've learned the basic open chords & can do those quite well.

Can anyone give me advice on what to learn next?
I dont just want to learn more songs I'd rather learn more about new techniques & stuff....Anyone know any good online lessons or anything to point me in the right direction plz

thanx in advance :-)

I listen to a variety of music but my mainstay is punk. So I learned alot (all) of the power chords when I started playing. Cyberfret.com has a great guitar site for beginners. Also check out Grimoire's Guitar Book. It has really good instructions on scales, chord construction and progressions. They have many other books in the Grimoire series but this one is a collaboration of the important parts taken from them. I was also told that Fretboard Logic has great books to learn from. Good luck!!

I think when you're starting out, there's always the question of how what you ought to learn ought to be structured.Maybe you'd be better off to someone who understands music theoty in general and how it relatesd to guitar.Other than that, there are a lot of things(called "tricks" in trickspeak)that you could use.I,however, don't think this will help you with that "structure" thing.
There' also this site that I love:
http://www.guitarnoise.com
Lot's of nice stuff. All of it free.
And if you have money, you could spend it here:
http://www.guitaralliance.com
http://www.acousticguitarworkshop.com
The former sends you lessons in C.D form, and I think, tho' I'm not sure, that they have a download option as well. The latter has everything online.Whether or not these are worth the money is debatable.I haven't used them myself,so I can't comment. But you might want to check them out.
And since it's seems you're new here, welcome. What newbies usually do is post a "hi" on the open discussion.More pple there,so you get more wellcomes. Not like you'd know, but that's what happens.
Good luck!:)

...well i am mostly metal fan... i play in a rock and a metal band... i had some problems, when we played speed metal... my right hand was not well learned for fast playing... i had to practice a lot which i hated, couse my wrist started to hurt, but i dont regret it,now i can play really fast with my right hand :)) you dont play guitar just with one hand.... the right is also important, so practice with both hands...
