I picked up the Line 6 Mobile In hoping to improve things with my iPad and iPhone for practice and jamming. A few friends had moved from the iRig and were raving about it. What, with Guitar Center's return policy, I figured - "what did I have to lose?"
Well, I've lost lots of latency, that's what!
Price is $79 list and most locations are selling it for that. It's a bit more "spendy" than the iRig, but it's $20 less than the Apogee.
Pros -
Digital Input
Did I mention very low latency?
Line 6 Mobile Pod app is free
and here's the kicker -
It works with all other iOS apps that use Core Audio. These include AmpKit, Amplitube, Garageband, and most of the mobile mixers (I use Meteor).
Cons -
Because it plugs directly into the 30 pin port on the iDevice, it can feel a bit iffy in use. I fixed this with a 30 pin to 30 pin 2' extension cable. This allows me to put the iPad on my iKlip Studio and the Mobile In on the table / desk.
It requires the included 6 feet, 1/4" to 1/8" cable, so you'll probably want to buy an extension cable for more than desktop use.
