Get them all.

The wall is was and will be one of the greatest records ever, but i'd say that the most original record i ever heard was pink floyds Ummagumma (if you don't count the Shaggs, lol)

Pink Floyd is fu**in' great man.

Well, since Pink Floyd is my favorite band of all time, I'm going to recommend listening to:
~Meddle **
~Atom Heart Mother **
~The Division Bell **
~Obscured by Clouds
~Pulse (live)**
~More
~Momentary Lapse of Reason **
~Delicate Sound of Thunder (live)
~Relics (compilation album)
~Saucerful of Secrets
~Piper at the Gates of Dawn
~The Final Cut

**= Must have

As Syd got more and more famous, he was taking drugs after drugs, and the pressure kept mounting, he finally snapped and went crazy. He was sent to a psycheatric ward in England (Cambridge I think) and I don't know much about him from there. He released a few more albums solo, but none were as stellar as his Pink Floyd work. While still with the band towards the end of his ride, when he was really losing it, he'd actually just go on stage and forget to do anything. He wouldn't play his guitar, or he'd just hit the same chord over and over and over again. He was a total and complete mess.

Note to self: Drugs are bad

man, drugs are bad. think about how everyone esle must have felt like, becoming famose and stuff and making all kinds of money, and having to leave him behind. and if they didnt, we'd all be listening to something else.... that, must have been one tough desicion to make.

I can't believe I missed this thread!!! Pink Floyd is probably my fav band of all time.

Yup, Syd went insane. In fact, I think that's what the song Wish You Were Here is about.

I'm a massive Pink Floyd fan as well!

Shine on you crazy diamond from the wish you were here album was about Syd (Wish you were here probably is as well but shine on is more obvious. Most people think that Pink from the Wall was also largely based on Syd e.g. Comfortably Numb is based on an incident where Syd was out of his face and barely alive and was made to go on stage). If you know a bit about Syd and really listen to the lyrics of Shine on (and a lot of Pink Floyd's stuff) it means so much more. Syd actually turned up to the Wish you were here sessions out of the blue after not seeing the band for ages. He had lost most of his hair and had got so fat that the rest of the band hardly recognised him. Very sad. Though if it hadn't been for his genius there probably wouldn't be a Pink Floyd.

The Wall the Movie? Yea, it's really good. Bit heavy going and the imagery isn't very subtle but worth watching. Prefer the album though. The screaming in the background of the second comfortably numb solo sounds great.

Did anyone else here the rumour that Pink Floyd were reforming soon and going on tour? Don't believe it untill I here it from somewhere concrete.

Man, it's pretty weird. It's definitely not for everyone, and it might not make much sense unless you know a lot about the history of Pink and Syd.

It has some interesting stuff (like the part during "Another Brick in the Wall, PII). So all in all, I think it's worth seeing.

Yea, I'd agree with Christoph. I really like it but not everybody does. I own it and have got very mixed reactions from the folk that I've shown it to from loving it to being totally overwhelmed by it and hating it.
If I were you (Mad Slasher)I wouldn't rush out and buy it, but you should watch it if you get a chance and make your own mind up. There are some albums that I'd get before even thinking about the movie like Meddle, Division bell, Piper at the gates of dawn, pulse..

I don't know Pink Floyd that much, but I have bought the used DVD of "the wall", and I thought that some of the songs were brilliant.
Gilmour has a gorgeous tone, and the music transcribes well the state of urgency that the hero is going through (I didn't know it really happened to the guy though)

You know he went insane because he was to smart.
Like the guy in "A beutiful mind".
Great movie by the way.

Another thing, when they produced their new CD,
they planted as many trees as it takes to absorb
the amount of pollutions created by the making of the CD.

Odd, but you gotta love them.

Are you serious??? How could they possibly calculate how much polution would be generated by their CD?
