Fender Custom Shop, quote" The traditional Fender nut is compression molded for uniform hardness from surface to center. Custom Shop options include; brass, bone, plastic, graphite,LSR roller and locking nuts." Fender calls their plastic" Cyclovac", which sounds alot to me like injection molded plastic. Oh No you say, Fender Custom Shop wouldn't really use plastic would they? Well just this week I picked up a copy of "Guitarist" magazine, and they compared a Fender Custom Shop Classic Player, a Tom Anderson, and a Don Grosh, and all 3 of these fine high dollar guitars had plastic nuts! Really the key factor is hardness, if that nut isn't plastic, then what is it? the oddity here is that it's black, the vintage reissue type stuff almost always has bone or simulated bone "Cyclovac" nuts. Well you know what they say, If it ain't broke, don't let pstring fool with it!
