Welcome Swinings to the site. I've been in your shoes. I've played off and on for years but my strategy now is to stick with a preferred genre and get a lot of the fundamentals in place. There are a number of long time instructors on this site who have lots of great videos on Theory, Fundamentals and specific styles.

Long ago I had an Epiphone (Gibson) electric acoustic which was recommended because of a narrower neck. Currently I play on a GUILD acoustic guitar (regular width keyboard).
