no doubt about it, Def Leppard is one of the all time greats. However, they really lost their sound with the passing of Steve Clark. :(

Don't get me wrong, I still love Phil he's very talented and very technical, but, Steve had something special in his rhythms. Regarding Vivian? I dunno, he had big shoes to fill. He may be a better guitarist that Steve, but he never could fill his soul that Steve brought to the band.

It's a riff writer versus a song writer. Steve Clark was a riff writing machine and others in the band excelled in song writing/arranging (along with Mutt etc). It's the equation that is no longer in play. Vivian is a good song writer and good riffer but few people have the riff writing ability of Clark. For that reason, it's a hard and even unfair comparison. Few people in the world get blessed with the ability to really write memorable riffs.

You know Jeff... What you said really speaks volumes to me. I find myself constantly coming up with new riffs all the time, but, not taking them into full songs.

Yes, for sure steve clark's sound is irreplaceable IMO. There will never be another Pyromania without him.
