I have just joined Guitar Tricks and so far, so good. I like the style of the lessons and I like how the fundementals course explains the really basic stuff, which is good for anabsolute beginner like me.

My one criticism is the total lack of comments for people like me, that are left handed. I know that most of the time I just have to substitute left for right but it would be nice to acknowledge that 13% of the population does actually exist.

It would also be good if the chords and diagrams could also be available for left and right handed people. Might also be nice to have a left handed instructor to discuss any specific issues that lefties may come up against.

Hi mdean2805...
Welcome to GT.. You post some good questions and ideas.
If you haven't tried a forum search, you might want to try it.
Go to the main forum page put lefties in the search box... I noticed lefty question post as far back as 2001.
One remark I remember about lefties learning right is that the left hand does the more complex work..
The second thing is the selection of left handed guitars is limited and more expensive.
Would you happen to know the percent of the left hander that play guitar..
Good luck and keep on pickin'

That 13% of the population thing doesn't really seem relevant. Maybe 13% of all people are left handed, but not all left handed people play guitar. So I don't think you can say that 13% of all guitarists are left handed. Either way, I'm just assuming that everything would be exactly the same as right handed....but switched, right?

I am left handed and I would strongly recommend that anyone just starting to learn to play guitar should learn to play right handed.

Each hand does a completely different job on the guitar. In a "right handed" setup the left hand has the harder job. So it really is kind of a left handed setup anyway.

I really really recommend you do this.
