I'm currently using Guitar Pro 3.0. Awesome tool for building chops. As far as learning songs...in reality nothing beats figuring them out for yourself. Training your ear to recognize notes will help your brain recognize your ideas and help bring them to life.
To contradict myself...I've got three stacks of guitar magazines about as tall as me. And, I've learned thousands of songs from them. Don't rely too heavy on these methods and never neglect your own abilities to transcribe music.
