Sound levels

Shouldn't be too long until we get our first gig. Any tips on how to get your sound levels right?

First off, learn to swallow your pride. You may not be able to hear yourself, or may not feel that you're loud enough. You have to realize that what you hear on stage is often totally different from what's out on the floor. Now if you have a soundman doing things, let them get your levels. If not, have a friend go out, listen from various places on the floor and give signals about who and what needs to come up. If somebody in your band has a wireless unit (and since it's your first gig, I think the answer is "no"), it doesn't hurt to have them go out and check themselves.

Above all, just relax and have a good time, and you'll come out allright.
