I was wondering what strings you all like for your strats. Mine has a tremolo bar on it,(when I finally get it out of layaway..)that might make a difference....

I use martin marquis medium on my acoustic, with good results, but have no idea about electric strings. I want a blues sound, since that is what I want to play on the strat..

I checked out the music dealers but there are a ton of different strings. One set that was interesting was a mixed set for playing the blues.

I was wondering too,are medium strings the preferred string? Let me know what brand you all think is best for the money, sound wise and reliability wise.

I want to pack away about 10 sets for my new guitar...I hate to run out of strings...

First, I'm curious where you live, dude. :) If I recall your posts correctly, you've just picked up the guitar and already own a Tak and a Martin and "found" an amp gathering dust in a corner?

I am merely a humble GT student like yourself, but as far as strings, my own personal preference is 10's. I use them on my Squier Strat after having used 9's for a while. Actually I still have a few guitars with 9's on them, but the ones I play much have been switched to 10's.

SRV reputedly uses 13's. Maybe you can research your favorite Blues player and check out what they use. I dig SRV (a lot!), but I don't think I'd like playing 13's.

You could hold off on the 10 pack and try a couple sets in different gauges. See what you like. I assumed I would like 9's but my personal preference after some experience led me to 10's.
...so ever since then, I always hang on to the buckle.

Gee Razbo...Aren't you the curious one... I laid away a squire vintage modified sss,it's still in layaway.

I'm not sure what a TAK is,so I probably don't have one. I've had the martin D-35 since 1976,I played bluegrass for a while.

I have an ovation celebrity deluxe that I bought on whim a few years ago. It's been collecting dust until now.I also have an ovation balladeer made in 1979 that i got at a flea market. That's been at least 15 years ago.

I had the loudspeaker setup years ago to use for doing some public service stuff. I used it a couple of times and then it was set in a corner and pretty much I forgot about it.

I didn't know if it would work well for a guitar, but the celebrity didn't sound that bad through it..so I can use it until I need some thing better, which may not happen...

I know you're dying to ask,so I'll tell ya straight out...HANES fitted boxer... :D

P.S. if you look under the date up there,it tells where I live..

Ovation. I was going from memory and thought it was a Takamine. You have some nice guitars.

About your Hanes... I'm not all that interested. :p

I have played on 9s, 10s and 11s, but 10s always seemed best for me. I play blues, rock and classic rock. I use Blue Steel 10s on my SRV strat and Gibson VR 10's on my SG Diablo. I tried 13s once, cause SRV (one of my favs,) used them in his early years but it chewed the crap outa my fingers and I had to stop playing for a week till they recovered!

Like Raz was saying, maybe buy some single packs of a few different type and gauge and see what you like best

I love ernie ball. I use slinky 9s on my strat, and know several other musicians that swear by them. Been concidering trying 10s, but still have several sets of 9s from my last order, so they will have to wait :P

I used Di'Addario XL .10's. I've used Di'Addario's since about '86ish during the 'on' times that I've played. String preference is subjective to the player but I've like the XL's because they are a bit brighter to my ear and keep the tonality and tune longer than most I've used. That's to my ear, though.
