SHAWN LANE & THE PENTATONIC SCALE
I know Shawn Lane uses a 1 note per string playing style, so how can I effectively do that using the pentatonic scale?

Ok here's the tip... Shawn lane has a different approach for the pentatonic...
He uses a very weird fingering at first, but it is WAY faster and more comfortable once you get used to it...
You have to play every note that start the 5 notes lick with your second finger, and then the first and ring for the following string (1 is first, 2 second, 3 is ring, 4 pinky)
--------------------------------------5-8--
----------------------------5-8---5-8------
------------------5-7---5-7-----7----------
---------5-7--5-7-----7--------------------
-----5-7-----7-----------------------------
-5-8---------------------------------------
1 4 1 3 1 3 21 3 1 3 2 1 3 1 3 2 1 3 1 3
I hope I was clear...
That lick is an excerpt from his REH tape "power licks" it's influenced by art tatum (quintolet and ascending scale)

Well, shawn lane don't only use one note per string,
but he uses some licks that are that way, and he dosen't
sweep them, but pick them... Stringskipping is a fun thing.. and shawn uses more scalas then the pentatonic, but
he may use some runs here and there... (i really don't know so much of shawn's work)..
i've made some examples on 1 note per string(sometimes two though) licks... they are all A-pentatonic..

Have fun.. it isn't that difficult to make licks like theese, but they have to fit in u know.. = )
