I saw some video on tv ( and now that I think of it I knew people back in the day who did this ) and the guitar had stickers on it.....looked cool...BUT
I was wondering what effect that would have on the sound or would it?
Im sure the adhesive isnt too great for the finish....but would it effect the sound/vibrations?

Naw, doesn't affect the sound at all, just looks cool in the right hands.

Half the reason I haven't sent my 80's era Kramer American Pacer for a new paint job is because I stickered it up so much that it's going to be a pain to undo all the junk I put in it. However, even with the stock pick ups (that I hate), it sounded pretty good.

You might be a little more iffy there. I mean, the sound eminates from the sound hole from the inner resonance of the body so I wouldn't think it would be terribly much of an issue but I guess I don't know how much of a dampening affect a sticker would have. hmmmm

I would also than assume that painting the face of an acoutic guitar would also dampen the resonation and vibration? say with acrylic paint? I wouldnt do this.....not sure if I have ever even seen it ..,just got to thinking.

Also would probably make a difference as to how MANY stickers you had. If it was completely covered, then maybe the dampening would be noticeable. If you have a couple here and there, there may TECHNICALLY be a difference, but to the human ear you might not notice so it doesn't matter.

My guitar is covered with stickers. I just like the whole vintage look to it. It doesnt affect the sound at all. But not all sticker will do the part, I am very fussy on what I put on it.

Hey All,
On an electric, it might not make much of a difference, because most of the sound comes through the pick ups anyway. However on an acoustic, anywhere that you put your hand on the guitar, even the headstock carries vibration. Much of the sound does come from the sound hole, but not all of it. I've never tried putting stickers on a guitar, but I would think that putting them on the top, would really cut down on the vibration through the body.

I used to put stickers from the places we played on my cases, always thought that looked cool. I can say this, after them being on there for a few years, I'm glad I didn't put them on the guitar. When I tried to clean the case off, the stickers came off in pieces, and I never did get all of the adhesive off of it.

The choice is really yours, but I would advise you not to put stickers on your guitar. Another thing to remember is the guy with all the stickers on his guitar, more than likely has an endorsement. He gets new guitars on a regular basis, where you may have only one.

Painting an acoustic would really affect the virbations coming through.

I personally think it looks tacky on the guitar itself.

It's like a tattoo...make sure you REALLY want one.

That said, mods are awesome, even the purely aesthetic ones. A guitar re-built by you will be a lot more special than one you stuck a sticker on.

Now if I just trusted myself enough to humbuck the lead pickup on my strat...

No worries. Do whatever you want. If you think it looks good, go for it.

Who cares what I think.

If you use a hair dryer to warm the stickers they should peel right off. Don't over heat them.
