I have a 1954 Martin guitar, and I was wondering how much it could sell for. I am NOT going to sell it, but I was curious to see how much it was worth. I couldn't find any sites that really told me that though. I don't have the original case for it.

Had a look around... They seem to be going for around $2000 - $2400 with case... so maybe get it insured. :)

How much value does the case add? Since I don't have the original one, what would the price for just the guitar be?

Not sure, but I'd think it would be worth more than $2,000 - $2,500. I'm thinking probably around the $6,000 range. Of course, it all depends on the condition of the guitar...

On the difference the case would make - it depends:

If the guitar is absolutely pristine a collector might be interested but would want the case so it was all 'complete'. If the guitar has been played a bit and is more a vintage 'working' guitar then it'd sell for less but the case would be less important (in my mind anyway).

I guess knock a couple of hundred dollars off for the case. as that's about what you'd pay to replace it. I'm not a vintage guitar buff, but that's my opinion as a gear hound... :D
