Quick question

I forgot which symbol was used to note upstrokes and downstrokes. Which is which? Theres a little "hat" type thing, and a downwards pointing arrow (v). I thought that the "v" was downstrokes but the tab Im looking at doesn't make sense like that.

The way I've always seen it is V is an upstroke and one that kinda looks like a footstool ( [ this thing lying straight down) is a downstroke.

Just to confirm.... 'v' is an upstroke....
