My brother wanted to learn the drums about 5 years ago, so my Dad bought him a drum set. He lost interest within a few months, and they have been sitting in our garage since then. I've been wanting to learn lately but I have no idea where to start. I know this is a guitar forum, but does anyone know a good drum forum like this site?

Drums are like any onther instrument in that you have to practice alot and practice the proper things. I recommend buying a rudiments book at a music store. Then, and this is important, take a good amount of time learning these on just the snare drum. Don't just try to jump on the whole kit and play. take at least a month on just the snare.

Practicing rudiments is gonna take you where you want to go, and use a metronome and start slow (Notice the similarities to guitar practice?)

Good Luck

Ya, I'm looking forward to learning drums because of what I know from guitar now. When I was a kid learning guitar, I didn't want to learn the slow way and practice all the boring excercises. With drums I know how I should be learning so hopefully I'll do it right from the start. Youtube has been helpful so far actually.
