i just slapped on some flatwounds on my bass (50s) and i must say....my instrument has a lot more balls now. i think the sound is a lot bigger and not just warmer. not to mention the strings feel great under my fingers as compared to the roundwounds which didn't feel as nice.

anyone else a flatwound fan? guitar or bass welcome.
okay...my post is done...goodbye.

I've tried them on both guitar and bass. And went back to roundwounds. I liked that there was no scritchysqueal as I moved my fretting hand on the strings, but the tone was kinda lifeless, IMO.

i've experienced the lifeless tone on guitar but on bass, so far...it's been big and booming..maybe it's just my playing style combined with it (i'm aggressive on the strings). but it definately has helped in terms of finger picking...i can actually pick faster with flatwounds and my fingers aren't as torn up with the flat wounds.

i'm tempted to try the guitar with flatwounds again just so i could try it direct in on bridge pickup...i think it might produce a cool tone.
