Whats your price range? X means a dead note, which means you have to mute the string with your fretting hand, whether it be with 1 finger or all of them. The intro to Hendrix's Voodoo Child is played with dead note strumming along with wah.

A Palm mute is when you press the bottom part of you right hand on to the bridge, while you pick the string/s

It changes the sound from a ringy sustained sound into a meaty thud - works best on the low strings - and is most effective on the distortion channel

I suspect that when your freting your power chords, your not pressing directly downwards and your allowing the notes to bend ?

For a heavy sounding guitar I would buy something with double coil pick ups - they have twice the power output of single coil pick ups.
You could research what guitars are used by your favourite guitarists

I totally redid this post because I realize you have a problem with English. Hmmm.

1) Make sure your guitar is in tune---that perfect fifth interval is what you are after.
2) Make sure you are fretting notes properly

I mean that you need to make sure that you are pressing down hard enough for the notes to sound out clearly. And also make sure that you are picking both strings with your right hand.

Well...a power chord is supposed to be two strings--maybe three if you add the octave---but if you are hitting more than that, then yeah, that might be it.

Yes, you can do tremelo with two and three strings at a time. You can do it with entire barre chords---you often hear it at the end of a lot of rock songs. The end of 'Hot for Teacher' has a long two-string tremelo part at the end. Just start slow and build from there.

Hi seedo,
All I meant was that you should be pressing the strings down (with your left hand) (fretting) directly downwards and not pushing them to the left or the right -(bending).
If you are playing them properly and it still sounds horrible - it could be that your string length adjustment is out - this is adjusted on the bridge on the body of the guitar - to do it properly you will need an electronic tuner.
An electronic tuner is a wise investment for any guitarist
The string length adjustment is known as 'intonation'.

With a tuner you can tune the open strings and then play the string on the 12th fret where the note re-occurs an octave higher

For instance the thick string should be E and on the twelth fret it should be a higher E - this is true for all six strings
If this adjustment is not properly set up - the guitar will sound horrid.
If you don't want to attempt it yourself a reputable guitar shop will set the bridge up for you for a small fee

Dude, if you want to go light on the cash, go with dean. The only good playing esps are expensive and b.c. riches are pretty damn awesome, but dude the good ones range high in the price range.

I've played a dean that cost like 600 bucks and it plays awesome! If you're into thrash riffs, then go with dean.

Hi Seedo, from my photo of the bridge you Can just about see, that the thick E string is longest and the thin E string is shortest

If you decide to buy an electronic tuner, try and get one with a needle display, these are most accurate - In the UK they are about 15 Pounds
