I've been listening to a lot of Randy lately. I've discovered more than i knew. His guitar riffs and solos are very intricate, and i believe his is as good or if not better than Eddie Van Halen. He was an extremely good songwriter and very talented. (just listen to his version of paranoid) It's a shame that he died so soon, the was seemingly no end to his possiblities. As Ozzy said, "he was to good to last."
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.

Yeah man, I love Rhoads, hes one of my all time fav guitarists. The major difference between him and halen is that Rhaods was brought up on Classical music, so it has a huge effect on his playing style. One of the few guitarists who kept himself clean of alcohol and drugs and he still died way too young. Its just a shame something like that happened. I dunno if you know but he also played with Quiet Riot for a while, i can't immediately think of many of the songs he played with them, the only one that comes to mind is Slick Black Cadillac, its a pretty cool song.

I have to agree with you on that, Zeppelin was the pinnacle of rock, or anything for that matter.

Anyways, yeah i did know the Rhoads was classically trained, and i also knew that he was in Quiet Riot briefly. However, i didn't know he was drug an alcohol free, he must've had great willpower, bieng with Ozzy and all. He wrote the Over the Mountain riff while the others were out drinking, that much i knew.

I know alot of people who hate 80's metal rock but have a deep repsect for Randy Rhoades (including myself), it's a shame we couldn't have heard more from him. His playing is very technical but yet full of emotion, 2 qualities that work well together. Randy knew the importance of studying and appreciating classical music and reflected it into his playing.

Ive only heard two of his songs I respect what he did in Paranoid in that he didnt just settle for playing it the original way and made his own in a way. Ozzy probably had a hand in it too. I still prefer the Sabbath one though.

Yes Rhoades was special, I was reading an article the other day and before he died he was preparing to do a degree/masters in his craft. If it of interest.

Led Zeppelin, at least ther are a couple of us who agree on the subject.

I have found two types of van halen fans out there:-

1. the real fan who enjoys it an buy's because they are inspired - no problem with them because music is choice.

2. The real prick's are those who like them to be cool and think its trendy to like them or even worse like van halen beacause freinds or peers do. - but it is like that in any music i suppose. It's generally these who bang on about it and how good van halen is and come out with all the facts and feats etc that are trying to convince us that we should, and that they like em in order to convince themselves they really love em.

Yeah I hate them pricks. Its the same with Korn and Slipknot these days. They stink too.

Anyway, back to Randy. A fellow classical player. Another great classically trained player, Robby Krieger from the Doors. Some guitarist. One of my favourites.

I agree with everyone, randy was the man. He was one of ther best ever. I especially like how he changed crazy train. I loved that song by sabbath, but when rady changed the solo around and messed with the original riffs it sounded awesome. all his work was really great.

Luke

you must mean paranoid, crazy train was an Ozzy/Randy original
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. I've been an Ozzy/Sabbath fan for years, and I know for a fact it first appeared in 1980 on Blizzard of Oz. The writing credits (copyright?) are given to Ozzy/Daisley/Rhoads. I have no idea where you heard it in conjuntion with Sabbath, unless they played it on tour with Ozzy AFTER 1980
