Nah, I see your point, but I think he was already hugely respected as a player (and as a person). For instance his Riffer Madness series of articles was easily the most popular for Guitar World, and his fans loved his open welcoming personality. The reverence given him since, has only been due to missing his overwhelming presence while he was here. Also I don't think the incident even got that much coverage, except the immediate news story. Most out of the guitar or metal community prolly still don't know his name. So yeah, I think his status was fully earned beforehand, while his legacy has generally only been observed with those who appreciated him in life, me obviously being one of them!

Even thought Dimebag was the guitarist hero of the 90's, and basically helped metal say alive, his death did make Dean the biggest guitar distributer now. It seems as if the "Dean" company name should change to "DIME"

Imagine if Steve Vai were to die...
^that would truly shake the guitar world.

Yeah, in fact, I'm a little bit sickened by just how shamelessly Dean are using Dime's death to make money. Dimebag tribute guitars, straps, apparel, even a motorcycle: where will it stop? Where do you draw the line between honest tribute and callous commercialism? I think it's about time they let the man rest in peace, no?

What's sad is, if Steve Vai died tomorrow, Ibanez would probably do exactly the same thing.

Yeah, the whole thing kind of reminds me of a less funny Kurt Cobain situation. And I don't mean that his death is funny, I just find all the stuff with his face on it kind of ironic. I mean, one of the reasons he killed himself was because he was sick of being so goddamn famous, and so they put out T-shirts with him on them (not even Nirvana, just him) and turn his personal journals into a book. It's ridiculous.

Sorry to bring up Mr. Cobain in a Dimebag thread, but I just see it as the same kinda crap.

Cause of Dime I picked up the guitar, never heard such a brutal player with so much music on it, still hate myself for not being at the Pantera concert when they came to Mexico with Kiss.

I did started with a Dean cause of Dime, and I agree that most of the brands he used, now use him.

We must remember and never forget, cause it would be impossible not to think in metal guitar playing without thinking on Dime's influence on it.

I know it sounds like it's been said a million times but from the heart I have to say... Raise you Black Tooth Grin and say cheers for Dimebag... we all miss ya' bro, till we meet again.

Strenght beyond strenght.

its upsetting how many people have no idea who he is...and not to mention that he was such a young face for the metal revival scene. its just one less frontman in the metal militia, which is upsetting in itself, but for someone so influential to die like that...its the equivilant of tu pac, except for dime wasnt exactly asking to get shot, whereas that whole biggie-tu pac garbage was over insulting one another. there is no justice in this world.
