does anyone know what solar system they are from? my theory is this.... they exist to make me feel like i suck! just kidding! but seriously, does anyone else out there ever wonder HOW THE HELL THEY DO IT? it's highly unusual to have 5 guys that are so extremely gifted to be able to do what they do without ego's tearing them apart after the 1st or 2nd cd. granted being a guitarist myself, john petrucci floored me from the start, but as i really got into them, video tapes and all, i find it just as flooring to watch each individual doing his thing. RIDICULOUSLY, SICKENINGLY, MAKES ME WANNA SELL MY GUITARLY, BRILLIANT BAND!

the first time i heard flight of the bumble bee, my mouth dropped. i couldn't believe it. it was so ****ing fast. they are quickly becoming one of my favorite bands
To improve technique and of course trying to keep all as clean as possible. I know my own limits and speed limits and so on I never play anything I'm not capable of. That wouldn't make any sense. After three years of playing I tried to play everything as fast as possible and that sounded, I would say, like shit, and I didn't realize that if I'd play bit slower things than I was capable of playing then everything would sound much better.
