Living in the UK over the last few years, we have seen a great influx of Asylum Seekers,
Some of them are proffessionals and get good jobs, I've seen a lot of taxi drivers and foriegn restaurants are springing up - sadly some remain unemployed and a minority get involved in the black economy..

My town is constantly changing, and not in a good way. It seems to be every week that some a-hole developer demolishes acres of beautiful bushland to build a string of McMansion monstrosities. Within ten years, the Blue Mountains will have gone from a world heritage site to just another expanse of suburban sprawl. :(

yup....we are infected with californians.....they are building million dollar homes on the hills where i used to play as a kid....cutting down all the trees. huge ridiculous houses that are two feet from each other in some cases. some are gated. i feel like like my childhood got stolen. bastards. well at least their houses will slide down the hills eventually since the tree roots holding the foundation are gone.....and in winter ice they can forget about using their 3 car garages with their steep winding driveways....idiots

Uh, yeah; I live in Calgary. We have ~100 new people arriving here every day.

There are a lot of service-industry jobs, but a serious shortage of housing. Means we get a better class of homeless - employed, but living in their cars. No way to spend a winter in this part of the country!

Jeez! That's no way to spend a winter in this country in general.

As for my town, it's changing, yeah. My dad said when he was a kid it was a pretty cool town, full of kids and whatnot. Ever since I've been around, though, it seems to be a place where old people come to die and idiots come to be jerks.

Well last year we had the Katrina evacuees come over and integrate (for the most part). By far most of these are fine people trying to start their life over and get on their feet, like a couple who moved in next door to me (really nice folks)...but...of course a lot of the criminal/gang element came too. Houston's murder rate jumped 20% in 6 months. Also, being a border state and Houston being a sanctuary city, there's always the illegal aliens flowing in, but unfortunately that's nothing new.

I hear you bro. People come here to be losers too.
The other day some kid my age was in a fight. A 60 year old dude intervened and the kid assaulted him. The man died the other day in the hospital. Embarassing.

Yeah we are getting that crap too...

We are a port city so we get US naval ships here all the time. A few weeks ago at 4am outside of a bar in downtown Halifax a fight brokeout between two losers... a US sailor tried to break it up and got stabbed and was killed.

It shook our community, because stuff like that never happened here before..

And after speaking with someone who had been at a meeting about what they can do to stop this sort of violence.. it was found out that in a 10 block section of Downtown Halifax over the past year 900 reported assaults have happened.. Mostly just drunk losers fighting other drunk losers between the hours of 12am and 4am... but still pretty disturbing information.
Great works are performed, not by strength, but by perseverance.

Yeah.... I want to leave the UK because it's going straight to hell...

Unfortunately, this thread will probably serve to prove that it's the same everywhere. If it were only immigrants, I guess we could stop them coming here if we were of a mind to do so, but....

... what I see is a change in people generally. The mentality now seems to be the world owing people a living - if they don't have enough, they'll beg (of take welfare) or steal, and see it as their 'right' to do so (regradles of who I mean by they - it's widespread throughout all communities).

The world is a violent place now. People are laregly intolerant even of their neighbours, and everyone is so self-centred that people get killed for nothing, and it barely raises an eyebrow with 'us' anymore....

Yeah Eric, I see you guys are getting the youth-crime BS there too. In Winnipeg right now it's almost an epidemic. Seems like every week at least one person gets murdered or brutally beaten by some little ****.

My dad says the only solution is to start breaking bones or cutting off fingers. At first I thought he was joking, but I'm starting to come around to his way of thinking.

I live in a high crime area, but then most of Dublin is. There's apartment blocks being built on every patch of grass - meaning there is no where for the little delinquent kids to play so they make games of throwing rocks at houses and cars. Their junkie parents don't give a crap what they do, and if you go to talk to them, they'll try and beat ya up!

I could go on and on, but it just makes me angry. Two years from now I'll be getting ready to leave this hell hole. Moving to New Zealand, or if not there anywhere thats not Ireland, any thing is better that this.

When I was in NZ this time last year (i got married there) every one seemed very friendly, they also loved the idea of having an Irish bakery (thats me, a baker) around.

But, if it doesn't work out there, we'll just go somewhere else. The reason we picked NZ is because we can get working Visas for there, plus they speak english. Also the house prices are low - though anywhere is cheaper than here. One of the main reasons we're leaving is because we will never be able to afford our own home here. The average house in my area, which like I said is the biggest sh*t hole in Ireland, is €350,000. I don't know what that is in dollars, probably close to $400,000, and now the new houses don't even have gardens or driveways.

See I told ya not to get me started, now I'll rant for days :p
