To Palm-mute just rest the right side of your right hand,
across the strings in front of your bridge pick-up or,
what ever your strings go thro first to put the strings on.
Try not to over mute by pressing your right hand to hard,
against the strings...........experement.

hey,
I haven't been playin real long, but palm mute is simple, just put your pickin hand over the strings, and u can like rest hard to get a real dead sound and as you get to playin slightly lift off to give it a fading in sort of sound and stuff like that. Muting is really useful, and if you've got like blank spots that need a fill-in or somethin, just mute your power chord between your newxt one and it makes a good sound, like with last resort by papa roach, I mute it between the strum to give it somethin extra

e-------------------
B-------------------
G-------------------
D-------------------
A-99--77--55--4--7--
E-77--55--33--2--5--

is how it is supposed to go, but instead i play

mmmmm mmmmm mmmmm
e----------------------------------
B----------------------------------
G----------------------------------
D----------------------------------
A-9999999--7777777--5555555--4--7--
E-7777777--5555555--3333333--2--5--

just mess around and enjoy it
later,
Luke

Palm Mutes are cool. But are most fun with some heavy distortion and big fat texas style pickups. Its definitely alot different than classical guitar because you have so much freedom in the way of sound its all about expirementation.

I think Last Resort goes like this:

e-------------------
B-------------------
G-------------------
D-99--77--55--4--7--
A-77--55--33--2--5--
E-------------------

You had it right, just go down one string.

You can also try muting with your left hand. When you want to mute, lift up you left hand from the power chord position so that your fingers are still on the strings but the strings aren't touching the frets.

When you combine this technique with palm muting, you'll be able to play some really cool-sounding, complex rthyms that you woundn't be able to do with palm muting alone.

Listen more metal music. It is like learning new langguage. It takes time to understand the concept and how to use it. Since you are accoustic guitar player, i knew you are really good with your fingers, but this time you will be practising a lot using the pick and it is time for you to choose the right pick and the right way of using it. Get your palm muting works, listen to how metal music play their chords and lead scales and the skills. Oh, metal will work with sound effects especially distortions, feedback and blah blah blah blah. Remember, it is all more to mental adjustments and if you can think like a metal or rock person, you can play like a rock person. Hmmm... but it is great to be able to think like a musician where you can play all kinds of music genre and styles. Be a free thinker and that means free your mind from just one music concept. So, to begin with, look for metal music on the store be it original or pirate, at least you have the sample music and analyze how metal works. What kind of beat do they need? What kind of guitar effects and tones they need? Any echo or feedback effects? Any palm muting when playing the lead solo and the chords progression and listen to the riffs. It is all to your effort now and the benefits you are the one to gain.
