Actually, the lower the pot resistance, the more treble gets lost. A 500 k pot with a single coil, or a 1 Meg pot with a humbucker can open up the sound. Or it might sound harsh. YMMV.

I use 1 Meg pots with my aftermarket buckers; the factory pots were 500 k, as are the pots in my single-coil SG-2, while my V has 250 k pots and buckers as the stock configuration.

Rule of thumb: increase the pot resistance to open up a muddy pup; decrease resistance to warm up a harsh one.
