If you go to youtube.com and search for Dimebag you should find some whammy bar usage/ abuse :D . You should use it gently for soft stuff, but you need to move that baby with emotion if your playing some metal or hardrock.

with a strat, you cant do a full dive bomb, but you should be able to bend the notes some.

although, with the squires that I've played, the most you can bend the note up or down is just like one whole step.

I've got a strat copy and I'm able to dive bomb on it. I know I can't it I do it regularly, I need to have the bar pointing tward the back and then pull it up pretty hard.

Without sounding rude, is it a cheap (ish) guitar? If it is, it's just the hardware and you're pretty much stuck with it probably. If it's a good guitar, it needs a service :D
