how to do a plectrum slide?

hey there, im just starting the guitar and im really struggling to work out how to do a plectrum slide like a lot of punk/hardcore bands do. has anyone got any advice for me cos when i do it, it sounds really crappy. im not sure i am doing it right. thanx!
