My guitar instructor is a pretty serious guitar collector. He's currently got 30+ guitars both electric and acoustic, all quality stuff, majority of which are American made. He's got a rare Guild acoustic/electric that he is offering me for fairly cheap. However it must be damned rare because I can't find out anything about it. The model number is FESCE and I can't find anything about it. The instructor told me that it hasn't been made since 93, and there weren't many of them made to begin with. He's selling this one to buy a $3500 guitar next week. I've played it before and it plays great. The tone is very warm, action is great, just wondering why the heck I can't find anything on it anywhere. He's selling it for $550, which, to me, is a good deal, but I'm just a little weary of it because I have no reference to go by. Anyone else heard of it?

Guild? I know Fender owns them now. I'm not sure about the model number a serial number would help more. Try to find the serial number here http://www.adirondackguitar.com/Resources/Guild_dating.htm . I really hope the link helps you. Also here's a link for some prices around the year of that model http://www.gbase.com/Powered/GearList.aspx?Dealer=5bca045e-11d6-420a-9147-4d99274b7be1&GS=Y&PageIndex=1&PageSize=25&SF0=5&SD0=0&SF1=7&SD1=0&DealerId=5bca045e-11d6-420a-9147-4d99274b7be1&Grp=5&SearchBar=False

Thanks for the links. Neither of them mention this particular guitar, unfortunately. I'm going to check it out again tonight. He says that he's got a guitar "bible" that shows the guitar and the depreciated value. I'll let you know about it tomorrow.

If it's depreciated then it probably isn't all that rare. Take my Gibson 25th/50th Anniversary LP. In '78 they sold for around $700 now they blue book for around $1400 in very good condition. If it's a rare guitar it should only go up. Just my take on the situation.

Good point! I guess I took some liberty with that post, as he never actually said "depreciation". He said "it'll show you what it sold for new, and what it's worth now." I took that to mean depreciation. Shows you how many "rare" guitars I've bought. I've always bought used guitars to save money, not make it. :)

I see your point and this guy don't sound like he'd mess you around. Just wanted to make sure you had as much info as possible! You made me research my guitar and the book value isn't quite what people are trying to get away with selling 'em. Unless the guy at the guitar store I called was high or trying to bamboozle me. I found stores that sell vintage stuff trying to sell my guitars brothers for $4,000-$6,000. Imagine my surprise.

Well, here it is, I picked it up last night. Sounds awesome, the action is almost as low as my Strat, and just feels damn good!

Thanks! Are you and I the only ones who get to work early in the morning? heh heh... NOPE, haven't found ANYTHING about it. The model number is FESCE-NT (hand written on both the guitar and the original owner's manual that came with it). Searching produces ZERO results, but he showed me in the used guitar bible (size of a phone book) what it originally sold for, and what it's worth now, so I know that it's not a fake. ;)

What were those prices? Sorry to be so nosy but I have a feeling I'll end up a vintage guitar collector someday.

No worries, it sold originally for $850, is worth $1150 right now and I paid $550 for it. My instructor got it for less than half of that an estate auction. Funny thing is that (according to him at least) it should double in value within the next 10 years since it's so rare. He's selling some of his guitars to buy a $3800 Gretsch White Falcon and Marshall amp. We'll see. What I find interesting is that I can't even find it on the "date your guild" websites by it's serial number. Just how friggin rare a guitar can this be??

I think the model is actually FF5CE. Is that possible cause if you search that model you'll get results.

Guess that's what you get when you handwrite the model down :) Funny thing is that in the manual it's CLEARLY FE instead of FF.

Interestingly enough the serial number STILL doesn't match up with anything I've found on the net.
