I was just wondering are there any tube amps that sound good at a bedroom level. I recently tried the peavey valveking 112 and it sounded pretty good and it wasn't loud. I guess the quality would get even better as it's kranked. Are there any other amps (I'm particularly curious about high end amps) like this?

the thing with tube amps is that when you turn the volume knob down, THE VOLUME ACTUALLY GOES DOWN!!! unlike solid states where it pretty much has no volume until "2" on the knob, and then it has 95% of it's volume at "3". so pretty much any tube amp can be turned down quiet enough for bedroom practice. just get a 1x12" combo to be as quiet as possible. it is true that tube amps are better when cranked, but doesn't mean that they sound like crap when the volume is low.

Tube amps that have a wattage rating of over 20, sound like crap at low volumes! FACT. If you want them to sound good you HAVE to turn them up in order to get those power tubes working.

I was thinking about getting one of them little "Pignose" amps for late night practicing with myself.

Any good? They're like these tiny little things with tubes, some are below 20W, etc.

I was actually thinking about the carvin v3. I heard that it's quite good at bedroom levels despite being a 50/100watt amp. any thoughts on this amp?
