hi mate
i have some advice for you on sound
first of all make sure that you are using a good
quality guitar(which means your guitar is worth over
£700.second make sure your amp is a good model
i recomend marshall or mesa boogie.
use at least a 60 or 100 watt.
concerning pickups
i recomend emg pickups as these are active pickups
and can produce far more output than dimarzios
or seymour duncans.
also active pickups are noise free and dont have any
hum at all. remember when looking for a good sound
make sure you spend 70% on a guitar 20% on an amp
and 10% on pickups
the quality of the wood in a guitar and the quality
of the valves in a an amp should always be
the priority before changing pickups.
the pickups i use are an emg 85 in the neck
and an emg 81 in the bridge
check out the emg website for more info [url]http://www.emgpickups.com
these pickups do not disappoint.

Think of it this way: If you're guitar plays well, is comfortable and has good unplugged tone, then it's worth your time and money to put better pickups into it. As for what brand, get what you like, this sort of thing is about individual taste. I too use EMG pickups, but in my basses, I'm not a fan of their guitar pickups. Remember, it's your money and it's your ear.
