Forgive me if there's been a thread like this already, but I was wonderin' what you folks think is the most talented band ever to have existed. Not necessarily your favourite.......just one in which every member was insanely talented at what they did. Go by these things:

Drumming
Bass-ery
Guitar...ing
Singing
Songwriting

My vote is Led Zeppelin.

Hands down-- Rush. (except for the singing bit, but hey-- can't be perfect.)
... and that's all I have to say about that.

You kids and your damn Dream Theater! Do you honestly think they're the very best at everything? You're not just saying this because you have a John Petrucci fetish, right?

Dream Theater is pretty good as far as talent. Their songs are quite complex and thoughtfull (sometimes boring though). I dont think John is the only factor, cause all their members are some of the best of their kind. Key board, bass, and drums are all synchronized and makes for a very cool effect. Their singer is also one of the best metal vocalists right now.

Technically, Dream Theater is one of the most skillfull bands at this time. All their members are educated vastly in the music they play and that maybe why their music sometimes sounds overwellming, or just over done.

JP aint the only talented person in DT.
He overshadows most of the dt members. but that doesnt mean the others are not as talented. they all excell in their own instrument. an all star cast!!!

Mike Portnoy has won the following categories in the 22nd Annual Modern Drummer Readers Poll:
#1 Progressive Rock Drummer (6th year in a row!)
#1 Recorded Performance (Scenes From A Memory)
#1 Clinician
#1 Educational Video (Liquid Drum Theater)
For the love of music not for the love of money!!! :D

I'll go with the Steve Vai band too. Vai and Sheehan are great together, toss in Tony McAlpine, and the drummer du jour and you got a kickass sound. I've also got my eye on Dave Weiner to see where his talent develops.
Blues is easy to play, but hard to feel.

Alter Bridge, Totally

Mark and Myles both shred and sing, and I like the kick of Scott on the drums. I also think Brain has one of the most smoothest bass-sound of alltime.

Say, is there anyone who like's Alter Bridge TO?

I might eventually grow to like Alter Bridge, but for the now the stench of Creed still lingers for me.

Anybody read that piece on Scott Stapp in Rollin Stone? That dude had serious issues. I think Alter Bridge is ok, but my full judgement is still reserved for a future date.

My vote for the most talented band of all time goes to Pink Floyd. Pure magic.
"It's all folk music... I ain't never heard no horse sing!"
- Attributed variously to Leadbelly and Louis Armstrong

If at first you don't succeed, you are obviously not Chuck Norris.

Yeah, that's because I got the Led Zeppelin DVD for Christmas, and after watching it, I came to the conclusion that each member was the best at what they did.

Yeah, I think Pink Floyd was pretty amazing too.

See, I just wasn't sure because I've never heard them before. Every article I've read about them makes it sound like John Petrucci is all the band has going for it. Maybe I should give them a listen sometime.

well, even though John is a killer guitarist, Dream Theater is not a band to listen to for the guitar only. Its a band that makes you examine the song as a whole. Unlike alot of other bands... :D

But Im not a huge fan of DT cause I find alot of progressive music boring, long, and prolonging. Id rather listen to a catchy 4 min. hair metal song.

I wasn't into it either but as I listened more and more I became a huge fan. My new band I'm getting into now is Children of Bodom. The vocals I must say aren't appealing on all thier songs but the overall music is outstanding.
