Hi guys, I'd appreciate some feedback on my latest track. I just recorded it in a local studio so I was lucky to have an engineer at hand. It's not fully mixed yet so there are levels, EQ and effects that will change but I think it's on the right track.
Gear used:
Ibanez Jem "Bad Horsie"
Traxis V2
Simul-Class 2:90 poweramp
Palmer PDI-03
Fender Esquire studio bass (falling apart!)
The drums are all programmed through midi.
Software - ProTools

I might change the effects on the lead parts, any suggestions (I was thinking longer more subtle delay with a warmer reverb)? Or does it sound ok like this? Everything was recorded dry so I can change the tone easily enough.

Rhythm n lead were all recorded using my guitar rig:
Mesa Boogie Triaxis and Simul-Class 2;90 poweramp into a speaker simulator (Palmer PDI-03) - then into the desk which then went into ProTools.
ProTools was used for recording/sequencing & effects (reverb, delay, chorus and a bit of flanger in places). The effects will all change as I am going to use an Eventide D/SE 3000 Harmonizer on all guitar parts exzcept the bass amd drums.

How did you get that sweet divebomb sound at 1:25? What sort of harmonic did you use? I can never get that sound out of them.
Strum the 9th frets harmonics across the G & B strings, then dive down untill the trem arm touches the fretboard, then let the trem come back up as you strum the 3rd fret harmonic on the open A. You can get some great sounds on the 3rd, 5th, 7th, 9th and 15th fret harmonics.

Just me on my lonesome :p I had to borrow the studio bass (a huge Fender Squire with dodgy intonation) which was a pain because I've only ever played bass a few times and I didn't get a chance to practice anything (made the arpeggios extra difficult in the middle section!).
The drums are actually midi, programmed one beat at a time in Cubase. They sound like a real kit because each midi beat is routed through Battery which syncs them up to real snare/bass/tom samples from a live kit. The most difficult thing about the whole track was the drum programming, the guitars were fairly simple and were recorded in about two hours, the bass took about an hour because I had to make it up as I was recording it!
In all it took a day to record all the parts and get the mix to where it is now, probably would have taken a lot longer with a real drummer. Thanks for checking it out though, I really appreciate it!

Some good shredding in there dude; nice clear arps and that ending riff builds nice tension.

yeah, the bass bits in the slow middle part- it seemed like you messed up once or twice. but you do it over again which sort of makes it sound intentional.
hmm... listening to it again i dont know. i would like to hear the bass more clearly in that section- right now it just seems to lack the perfessionalness of the rest of the track.
true, it IS a Squire, you can only get so much nice sounds out of one.
