This is a tune I've been attempting to get the vocals done for several months now.

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/NeedOpinions.mp3

I've auditioned several singers but nobody's worked out so far.
So I tried doing it myself.
My own vocals are softer than I'd like but I need to get some opinions on whether they fit the song and whether it's worth continuing with it.

ie, do the vocals fit the songs? ..
... there's harmonies coming too but should I hire a singer rather than do it myself?
Or in other words, would you buy this tune if you heard it on the radio? ...
or is it cheezy?

Any comments, negative or positive appreciated.

Hi I think you pull this off, however your doubt shows in the mix.
i think it would benefit the track to push them vocals upfront
take off a little of that reverb i reckon its drowning your vocals.
may help to thicken the vocals
up by making a duplicate copy of that Vox track and compressing
one of them 'heavily' with and eq give it a big push in the 5kHz to 8 kHz area
and a little push in low-mid range if needed. run this track alongside your original at a lower volume.

Have faith yer sound great :)

P.s if youre still worried about your vocals sounding soft (which I dont reckons an isuue but you know what your after) do a fair bit of shouting before you record I always find i have a gruffer/nicer tone after ive had a night out, which is usually because i have been talking loud or shouting over loud music most of the night and partly because a little alcohol has no doubt loosened things up ;)

alternativly check out Avox by antares ( http://www.antarestech.com/ )
That will do the trick it has a feature called throat.

Good luck

It's not that the vocals are bad per se; in fact, the vocals are fine. It's the fact that the song, in its entirety, is somewhat 'cheesy' (as you say) overall. Now obviously, if that's what you had in mind, then no big deal. However, with the general direction that popular culture is headed in these days, I cannot see a tune of that nature (full of synths) ever making it on the radio.

...And I suppose that's no problem anyway, since radio really shouldn't be used a measure of success. I'm happy writing my underground stuff and couldn't care less if it ever saw the light of day with mainstream audiences. Personally, I think you should stick with instrumental MoogBoog style tunes, but that's my 2 cents.

I agree with your voice being soft, but otherwise very nice!

Hmm, the singing wasn't bad at all really...but I'm not gonna blow smoke up yer *** either: I wouldn't buy that song. I think your own critiques were on the money...too soft a voice, without enough grit and power. Keep trying with either singing it yourself, or hiring outside. But hey...still better than I prolly could've done.

I have alot of respect for anything original and creative. But isnt that a Madonna tune or something? Sounds like you were kinda holding back on the vocals...needed more power and confidence! Other than that...you were in key and it didnt sound to sour for that "type" of tune.
