my gibson SG arrived today... about an hour ago, I've been playing the thing almost non-stop since then. I absolutely love it! now, I did the stupid thing and bought one without trying one out first... luckily I got lucky, there are certain guitars that, because of the shape of the neck, make my hand hurt after 20-30 minutes... this one is like the perfect fit for my hand, no pain whatsoever. I've played a fender, and the strings seemed too close together for me, and I own an ibanez, and it was too flat across the back... this gibson is more rounded, and fits me perfectly.
ok, going from playing an ibanez strat copy (alder body), to an a gibson sg (mahogany body) I noticed something from the first note I played... SUSTAIN! and I love the tone a whole lot more then my $140 ibanez.. and oh man, I love how smooth the tuning keys are, it's not jerky when turning it like my ibanez, it's very smooth, allowing me to get in tune alot better and faster. plus, I love the bridge, NO MORE TREMOLO! which means I can go down to drop D without putting all my strings out of tune!
the only thing I can really complain about is the set-up. but that's to be expected from ordering off the internet.. action is pretty good, but the pickups need to be adjusted, they are very wobbly.. and the intonation is slightly off, which I would feel alot more comfortable adjusting if I had a more accurate tuner (mine cost me $15) other then that, I love this guitar to death!
I have only one question, see, the guitar came with a gibson gig bag, but I wanted more then just a gig bag for my new baby, so, I ordered a hardshell case along with it, but now I have a gibson gig bag that I'm not going to use, do any of you know how much these sell for by themselves? I was probably going to sell mine, and I want to know the price of a new one, so that I can sell mine for a few bucks less... do you think that this is it? http://www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/547963/ cause if it is, then $60?!?!?!? that's insane, it's not that great of a gig bag, but it's got the gibson logo on it, so, I guess your mainly just paying for the name on it...
guess what? IT'S HERE!

ok, I just got done with a hour and 10 minute jam session on that thing... so, I've had it for about 3 hours, and played it for about 2 hours and 10 minutes... lol. yeah, so, I tried it with some effects this time (last time, I just strummed a few chords on it unplugged, lost track of time, and before I knew it, an hour had gone by!) this thing sound soo good with distortion. and it buzzes a whole lot less then my ibanez... ALOT, I couldn't even hear buzzing unless the volume was all the way up... it sounds alot closer to the real thing when I turned an acoustic simulator on too. but I only tried that for about 5 minutes before switching back to screamin angry death metal, and I think some of the fastest solos I've ever done... this thing just sounds so good no matter what you're playing! I'm still thinking of what to name her, I think that she and I will be good friends for a long time.

ok, so, I think I've narrowed it down, either Aimee, which means: beloved friend... or Ruana which means: musical instrument

Sweet dude. Perhaps the set neck has a lot to do with your sustain compared to a bolt-on. And I wouldn't rush on trying to pick a name just yet. Let it earn its name as you get to know her.

I took three pictures of it today. but it's a disposable camera, so, I have to finish off the roll, then get it devoloped (which also means acquiring the funds to get it devoloped!) and then I'll get the pictures on cd and put them up for you guys, so, anywhere from a few days to a couple of weeks, and then they'll be up.
