So a friend of mine bought the crossroads guitar festival DVD and I finally watched it. Blew me away! That guy with the steel guitar Robert....damn can't remember his name...Robert something (no, not Robert Cray and certainly not Robert Johnson...I think it started with an "R") was amazing. Vai played "I'm the Hell out of Here" which is such a show-offy song. Perfect for a guitar festival. Eric Johnson was rippin' it up. Of course Buddy Guy is ridiculous. I never knew Joe Walsh was such a hilarious guy either. Those yellow shoes were priceless.
Only problem was BB King played about two notes the whole time he was there. I mean, yeah, the guy's over-rated, but he's not bad by any means. Oh yeah, and I'd been surprised by this before, so it wasn't as shocking as it might have been, but John Mayer can really play! Something interesting my friend, Pretlow, told me was that Mayer is ditching the pop genre and forming a blues trio. How wicked is that gonna be!?

what you guys think of Dan Tyminski? (did "man of constant sorrow" and another instrumental) personally i would watch them 2 guys play all day than watch vai. I love the pureness of the sound, its like its just bein taken from the ground rather than the manufactured, machine like vai stuff.I got the dvd for christmas and that is the guy who i keep watching, him an john mayer. he is a fine player, shame his album does not live upto his live performance (in any concievable way) on that dvd.
The sun is shining the weather is sweet

Mayer's forming a blues trio? About time he started using his talent for something benevolent... or even using it.

Whatever you do, don't eat limes. A friend of mine ate a lime once and BAM!! Two years later. Herpes.

Yeah, Dan is really good. I like how he's always so happy and into the music when performing live. The 13th of this month I'll be going to see Alison Krauss and Union Station (got free tickets), so it should be pretty neat.

Well, poo. I must've missed it.
That stinks.
She's the best fiddle player that I know of... in fact some of my favorite songs to play (on violin) are ones I got off her CDs.

I read somewhere that he used to play in these "underground" jazz clubs in NYC.
OK, I get a bit miffed by all this avant garde stuff, but you gotta be good at what you do to hold your own in these places.
I like John Mayer. I heard this version of "Your Body Is A Wonderland". Him, the mic, an acoustic guitar, and some dude on a double bass. GAWD!!
