I’m looking for a vocalist/lyricist who can help finish this pop/synth song.
So far I’ve got the melody, multitrack music, some lyrics, and almost a finished version of the tune.
What I need is someone to take what I’ve got and finish the lyrics, record the vocals at home, transfer them to me on the net as isolated vocals…

Here’s a temporary scratch vocal version.

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/mp3/Xanamoog.voxtest.mp3

And the full instrumental version.

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/mp3/XanamoogFullMix.mp3

Here’s an early version of a vocal track…

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/mp3/XanaFinalTest.mp3

Basically what I need is someone who’s serious about finishing this vocal for me. I need somebody with a decent mic, home recording software, isolation booth etc…
All royalties etc will be divided depending on how much work is done.

There’s a tutorial on my GuitarTricks pages on how the tune was put together if it’s any help.

I don't know about singing. I'm not a singinger type singer. My metal influence has led me to the side of strictly growling and I've only ever practiced singing in the event that I need to let an actual accomplished singer know what I'm getting at. But I really like to write lyrics. I'm willing to do that much, but between my lack of capability and my lack of quality recording, I think it'd be best for your song to stop at lyrics... on my part anyway.

blah... I'm not sure where I am with this tune.
I'm going for a synth/pop type of thing, but when I hear my own lyrics the first thing that comes to mind is "argh...cheeeeeeeeesy".

The lyrics I came up with so far are below, and a recording with some very low vocals in the mix is here:

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/mp3/XanaFull.mp3

This version below is as far as I got before realizing the song was out of my range:

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/mp3/XanaFinalTest.mp3

Basically what I need is somebody to finish off writing the last verse and then do the vocals & harmonies.

I had one guy try it but it wasn't quite what I was looking for.

Here's my lyrics.
If anybody can improve on em, go for it.
Arrows indicate lines I'd like to toss out.

Don't Take Your Love Away
Copyright 2005 K. Taylor/Schmange Music U.K./Canada

Verse 1

You and me
Walking slowly hand in hand
Alone, we'll be
Falling for each other
Going all the way
Waiting for another rainy day, away <<<<
Waiting for the sun <<<

Verse 2

Won't you stay with me
Help me rediscover
All the days away
Lazy days of summer
You were holding me
Talking talk <<<<
And then you walked away
I gave you everything

Chorus
Why don't you take my hand
And walk away
Don't take your love away
Take my hand
Don't break my heart
Don't take your love away

Verse 3

----------------
----------------
----------------
----------------

Repeat chorus and fade

I'd "improve on" your lyrics, but then it would probably be about something dumb, like a zombie attack on the mall. Speaking of which, I'm gonna go write a song about that right now.
I want the bomb
I want the P-funk!

My band is better than yours...

hmmm.....Don't Take Your Zombie Away...

You and me
Walking slowly cause we're dead
Alone, we'll be
Falling cause we're dead

.... doesn't quite have that 'ring' to it.

Yeah, but perhaps...

You and me
Have been given something great
Alone we'll be
Feasting on each other's flesh.
Don't take it away.
Don't you ever take your Zombie needs away.
Off into the sun.
I want the bomb
I want the P-funk!

I messed around a little with the lyrics... I tried to keep the same message to the song (assuming it might have meant something to you). I tried to say what you were saying in a less "cliche" way... I also wrote in a last verse/outro. Here's what I came up with:

Yours and mine
Walking slow, keeping time
Alone, in here
Our souls folding from the fear
Push it all away
I’ll wait for another rainy day, away
Waiting for the sun

Won't you help me see
Help me change the scene
While days waste away
You told me it’s okay
I held on too tight
In the night
And then you turned away
I gave you everything

Please don’t take it with you
Don’t walk away
Don't you see what I do
Make it okay
Break me in two
Don't take it all away
(Love me, stay) <----- ????? don't know how it would go with the song

You and I
Walking slow, keeping time
Alone, in here
My souls crying one more tear
Pushing it away
I’m waiting for a rainy day, undone
I’m waiting on the sun

Not too shabby :)

I like some of the ideas you came up with, especially the first verse. Do you mind me using some of those lines in the song?
I'll give you 50% lyric writing credit. If you're registered with any music society like ASCAP or BMI, I'll link any royalties directly to your own account. (assuming the song makes any money of course). Just gimme the name you're registered under.

I'm not registered under anything like that. I just write music... haha. But yeah, you can use whatever you would like. If you need help on any other projects just let me know! BTW How do I get registered with something like that???

It depends on the country you're in and which society you want to use. In the U.S. it's ASCAP and BMI, in Canada it's SOCAN. There's a ton of other societies for other countries.
There's certain criteria you have to pass before you can join. Like you need to already have a song playing on the radio or tv.
Once you've got a song being used somewhere, the producer will send you a sheet with all the info on it like what show it is, who the producer is etc... and what song is being used. You send the sheet into ASCAP or whoever, with your application.
Once you pass the basic rules, you're joined.
Then you get an account so you can log on and list all your songs online.
If any of your songs are used anywhere, notify the society and they'll collect royalties for you. They also collect royalties automatically from major broadcasters and radio stations.

I'm with SOCAN in Canada and ASCAP in the U.S. So for instance, if you were to register with ASCAP or BMI, I could automatically link up your name to this song so that the royalties would be split before they're sent out.
If you can't join a society yet, I'm registered as a publisher so I can collect royalties for you and send them out. If a time comes in the future when this song is actually going to be used and there's a possibility of it making some cash, we'd have to write up a contract stating what your percentage is and that I'm representing you etc.. until you could join the society yourself.

Yeah, I will definitely want to join something like that. But right now I don't have anything playing on the radio or anything. Thanks for the explanation though. I did some research on it and I'm pretty familiar with it all now. Good luck with those lyrics though, glad I could help out.

Kewl..many thanks.
If ya have more, or have a knack for doing lyrics, keep em coming.
One thing I hate more than anything is writing lyrics so I end up with tons instrumentals and no vocals.

There's about 50 of em on this page.

http://s93744050.onlinehome.us/SchmangeOnline/Soundtrackst0964.htm

If you can think of anything to put with em, even if it's a short slogan or something that would work in a commercial, lemme know.
Ya can easily make a years salary with just one 30 second song if it gets picked up by a national sponsor and broadcasts worldwide in commercials.
