G string out of tune

Hi folks,

I need some help . . . the G string on my American Fender Stratocaster goes out of tune after just a couple of minutes of playing. I do a lot of string bending but sometimes it slips out of tune even when I don't bend the strings. Is there an adjustment that I can make?
Any advice would be gretly appreciated.

With your guitar in tune, pluck the string, then gently press on the string above the nut. You should hear the note rise as you press, and then it should settle back as you release the pressure. If it stays high, the string is not moving smoothly through the slot in the nut. Do not attempt to adjust this yourself. A decent guitar tech or a luthier will do it right, the first time, for a lot less time and money than a botched home-repair can end up costing.

*All of the strings should be wrapped NO MORE than 3 times around the tuner and should look like the threads on a bolt and NOT wrapping over each other.....

One of the nany problems caused by a non-tilt headstock....

Your Saddle may be a piece of crap, try switching it with another one it's pretty inexpensive.

Are they old strings?

Yea the strings are brand new and it's been happening over the last couple of sets that I've put on. I took the suggestion of bending the string above the head nut close to the headstock and the string raised in pitch and then did not return to the proper pitch. I guess that means that I need to have the groove that the third string rides in widened or something. Shouldn't this be a fairly simple procedure?

I don't know, but I would take Lordatthestrings' advice and have it done by a guitar tech.

This will end up costing you a lot less than if you jack it up trying to repair it yourself.
