You can't do much better than listening to early Ritchie Blackmore with Deep Purple and Early Rainbow. You'll hear a variety of scales outside of the major & Minor Pent's eg: Deminished and melodic minor scales and arpegio's. He plays authentic Jazz/Blues to Heavy Metal shred and back to Classical inspired solo's. He also plays in a scale he calls Bulgarian and you will hear an awful lot of this scale played by Ritchie in his Rainbow days. Listen to Gates Of Babylon and you'll get the picture.

Listening to Ritchie didn't do Yngwie Malmsteen any harm did it?
