I bought a Peavy 112 efx transtube amp. And when I have the distortion up it makes a loud screech. It stays at a constant level. Is this because I', too close to the amp or can I just plug a cable from the effects end to the effects return to solve the problem?

I dont know if it is a hollow body. I dont think so since its not a very expensive guitar. I've never played one before. My older bro got it in a kit with an amp for 200 for xmas a year ago. He never touched it so I picked it up and started playing. Its a fullerton. I took the amp back and yea it was feedback, he showed me how to play it woth it,too. How would it help if I play in a bigger place? How big of a place? Would it be better if I had a hollow body. I will be getting a new guitar before too long.
