Here's what I'm looking for... Something like an A/B box, but I want to be able to be able to send my guitar's signal out through at least 4 sends. The ability to turn the sends on/off isn't necessary since it won't be used live. Also, I would like to be able to plug more than one guitar in at a time, and possible designate which signal goes to which send. Does something like this already exist? Is this basically what a patch bay does? Thanks for any info!
multiple signal sender?

That is very close! One question though... Aren't the signals sent from a guitar unbalanced TRS? Would this make a differance since that splitter has balanced TRS's?

TSR = Tip Ring Shield: normally carrying either stereo (two unbalanced) signals or balanced mono. Guitar is unbalanced HiZ signal.
This box should be fine as long as you use both unbalanced "in" to unbalanced "out". You only really get problems when you go form balanced to unbalanced which results in a signal level drop.

so what is a patch bay used for?

You can use them for a bunch of things but the main reason I use them it is to allow me to access inputs and outputs without having to go tunneling behind racks and cases in an all-ready cramped studio in order to re-rout stuff. Instead I just move the patch cables around. If I suddenly decide I want a 32 band EQ in the signal chain... bang there it is ! 6r if I want a midiverb as in inset effect for the Focusright... bang, just move the patch cable over.
Another thing you can use them for is as ends (inputs) to a multi-core. This means that you can have rack gear a fare old distance away from everything else !

just thinking, it is possible to use a patch-bay to split signal as well if it supports parallel, normal and half normal modes. I can't remember the details of the top of of my head however i will have a look when I get home !
I suspect a Behringer Ultrapatch pro is also probably a cheaper option but wont have on / off type switches.

An ex-girlfriend of mine used to have multiple signal senders all the time. :p I never gave her a single one. :(

well, if she had "multiple signal senders all the time," then her main signal sender must not have been sending the right signals.
