My Peavey Classic 50 has 2 speaker outs, 1 - 16ohm,
and 1 - 8ohm. When both are plugged in, the amp
runs at 8ohms. When just the amps speakers are
plugged in, they're in the 16ohm spot. If I were
to run another cab along with the amps speakers, the
cab would need to be a 16ohm cab right? So, in other
words, if I wanted to run my Marshall 1960a 4x12 cab
along with the amps 2x12's, I would plug the extra
speaker out into the 16 ohm input of the Marshall and
that would give the amp an 8ohm load right?

Well, I tried it, and frankly, it sounded pretty bad. The 2 cabs are so different tonally, that if one sounds good the other sounds bad. So, I just stuck with running the 4x12. Plus, it's just about too much on it's own.

Does your classic fifty sound good driving the 4x12?
I was considering that amp(with a good dist pedal).

it sounds GREAT driving a 4x12, as long as you're not running the combo's speakers too. The amp has a great tone on it's own, but through the 4x12 is just sooo much better. I used an MXR ZW-44 overdrive pedal infront of the overdrive channel, and I can't imagine anyone wanting a heavier sound. The amp sounds great on it's own w/o the 4x12 btw, just better with. And if you're worried about volume......don't! This thing can get very loud! Especially through 4x12's! Hope that help's out
