Ok, here is what you can do, if you want more crunch, try getting that with adding more treble(or tone knob in your case), adjust your bass to keep it somewhat chunky sounding, and be easy with the middle. Don't use too much distortion though, you don't want to start sounding too muddy.

However, if you ever change to a louder amp, forget EVERYTHING i just said. At low volumes, the settings i gave ya might sound ok, but at high levels it will sound bad, really really bad! hehe

PS: Only guitars with active electronics have a battery in them, since you have an RG, i doubt it strongly that you've got active pickups in it. If you do though, then yes, it is important to change them when needed(when you start loosing volume and/or tone).
