Okay, everyone knows Phish, the String Cheese Incident, and The Grateful Dead as jam bands.

Anyone know of a Hard rock/metal jam band?

That's cool on the move.......

Let me clarify what I mean by Jam bands. I'm talking about a band that can play a 2 hour show without any kind of set list or actual song structures, total improv, and pull it off so well that no one in the audience knows its all just jams.....

I'd offer a prize if I knew the answer. I'm just looking for bands that I can relate too......My band played a show last night. Our time slot was about an hour and 15 minutes. Anyway, we just got a new drummer about 2 weeks ago and he didn't really have time to learn all of our songs. Sooooo, we worked with him on 4 songs (our songs involve a lot of changes, pauses, odd times, tempo changes) and the rest of the night were just free jams. Then after the show, people were coming up telling us they liked the 3rd song we played, or the 7th song, etc.... I had to tell them they were just improv's, and we wouldn't be able to re-create most of the stuff we did. Most were like "Wow, I'd have never known". I'm just curious if there is anyone else is doing this in the Hard Rock/metal catagory....

By the way, Led Zeppelin is a good example.......any modern day Hard rock/metal bands doing this?

Oh, Clutch is one of my favorite bands.....

"little gray men are coming our way, tastes just like chicken they say."

I never really thought of Clutch as a jam band, but I can see how people can get that from listening to them....

When's the last time you saw Clutch play live?

I just saw them go off on Spacegrass for about fifteen minutes last night. Tim Sult vs The Grays can be quite the jam session too when the mood strikes those guys.

Yeah, your right, Clutch is a jam band.....

But what I'm really looking for is a band that is totally improv. Clutch does jam, but they still use basic structures. I'm looking for a band that will start a jam blind, with no direction, with no planning, and be able to pull it off.
