Description

If there was one task for which the acoustic guitar was created, it would be to accompany a singer, so in this chapter we'll explore some fun and useful ways to do this. Whether it's yourself or someone else singing, this is a very important and highly rewarding thing to be good at.

In this first tutorial we'll start in the simple end of the spectrum and explore how little we can get away with when accompanying a singer completely by ourselves, which is something that's unfortunately lost on many guitar players of all different levels. The main part of this comes down to internalizing the groove, so that you can imply a strong sense of rhythm without necessarily marking every single subdivision in your playing. I'll also show you how to strip down your voicings to work even better as solo accompaniment.
