Description
A classic protest song, "Where have all the flowers gone" riffs on an ancient songwriting device and shines light on the destructive and cyclic nature of war by asking a series of questions. Each answer leads the listener to another question and another answer until the song comes full circle and the first verse becomes the last. Made hugely famous by Peter, Paul & Mary this is a great song to virtually every beginner guitar student. It has a simple chord progression, with all of the chords in one key. We'll be using our capo on the third fret and playing out of G major, which makes our song in the key of Bb.
We'll learn about 6 chords, and a good, basic strum that will serve the song nicely. Everything is about dynamics here, as there is only one chord structure (verse) repeated a total of 6 times. I’ll discuss how to use your left hand very efficiently using chord connections. We'll break our strum down into zones to create a more interesting rhythmic landscape.
We'll see that a high tolerance for repetition is the key to success with a long song like this!
