Description

Rooted in blues music, the shuffle feel transcends into the rock rhythm guitar world effortlessly. Adding the shuffle feel to your rhythm guitar playing allows a more unique groove. Playing with a shuffle essentially means adding a slight anticipation to the beginning and end of your rhythm phrases, creating a nice "bounce" to your playing. You can hear examples of a shuffle in everyone from My Chemical Romance to Jimi Hendrix to The Strokes and far beyond. Let's demonstrate this feel using some open Low E string power chords and single notes. Setting the metronome at 120 bpm, take a look at this example of playing in a shuffle feel in the style of BIlly Gibbons (ZZ TOP.)
