Description

We're only gonna need two different tones, clean and overdriven.

For the intro and the verses we'll be needing a really nice and fat clean tone; well-rounded with lots of clarity but also a punchy low end. It's going to differ depending on what amp you use but start with setting the bass around 7, mids around 5, and the treble around 6. I'm using a Fender Telecaster today to get that clean Fender sound and I'm on the neck pickup for the clean verses.

For the choruses and the bridge we're gonna need a lot of high gain, something kind of like a Marshall stack. So start by switching to the bridge pickup on your guitar.

You want to keep the same tone as for the clean, just add distortion that's set to about 7 and then scoop out some of the mids to get a bit more buzz.

Tune all strings down a whole step from standard. Tune your low E string to D, your A string to G, your D string to C, your G string to F, your B string to A, and your high E would naturally be tuned down to D. Now it's the same intervals as standard tuning but a whole step down.
