Let's start by simply playing the walking bass line. We're using notes from the E major scale. We'll use the root, 3rd, 5th, 6th & octave. We'll play up those scale degrees, then back down. That gives us an even 8 notes, 4 up & then 4 down. Once you get comfortable with that pattern, then add the open E & B strings on the upbeat in between each bass note. By playing it in an eighth note triplet swing rhythm we get that characteristic bluesy swing rhythm. This makes the bass line sounds like it's walking, or swaying!
