What's up people! This is Henrik for Guitar Tricks and today we're going to take a look at how to play "Back in the U.S.S.R.", as made famous by The Beatles. We'll be taking a look at three different guitars today, two electric rhythm guitars and a lead guitar.

The song will start out with a few notes from the lead guitar but mainly the rhythm guitar is building on the V chord to set us up for the first verse. Once we get going with the verse, we're gonna lay down a really rocking boogie rhythm that'll be the basis for what guitar 1 will be doing for most of the tune. When we get to the chorus, guitar 1 sticks with the boogie rhythms and we're going to add guitar 2 and 3 as they play a melodic riff that goes over the chorus progression.

After each chorus there will be some pretty cool turnarounds to set us up for the next verse or the bridge. They will vary depending on where we are in the song; especially watch out for what happens after the 2nd chorus, we're going to go into a part that's actually in 3/4 for a couple of bars. Guitar 1 will emphasize some chords
on the up beat while the vocals sing a repetitive phrase.

For the bridge the feel of the song changes up and we almost go into Beach Boys mode here with some really interesting interplay between the rhythm guitars. The solo is fairly simple and is based on the vocal melody but it has a lot of attitude in the attack. To end the song we'll simply jam on our 1 chord and guitar one is laying down the boogie while guitars 2 and 3 will be vamping on the melodic riff from the choruses.

The song is in 4/4 time signature apart from a few bars after the 2nd chorus, and the tempo is 143 bpm.
