The whole song starts out with just the acoustic guitar playing an open E major chord. Pay attention to this rhythm because its going the basis of what the acoustic guitar is going to play for the rest of the song.

I'm hitting the low strings first, then the high strings. And notice the emphasis on the down beats here, but also a tendency to emphasize the upbeats with the high strings.

As always, when you're strumming this type of guitar part you need to keep your wrist nice and relaxed, so there's no unwanted tension in your hand or arm. It can be a bit challenging focusing on your wrist feeling loose when you also have to be very tight with the rhythm section.

This is something that's very important in these types of songs because you'll be playing a lot of strumming and really holding down the groove with the band.
